Venue Review: Acre Baja // Cabo San Lucas Wedding Venue // San Jose Del Cabo Wedding Venue

Last month we had the privilege of staying at one of San Jose Del Cabo's newest up-and-coming wedding venue and boutique resort. Acre Baja, is a hidden tropical oasis set in over 25 acres of lush palm trees with private event spaces, an award-winning bar and restaurant, rescue animal sanctuary and the most amazing tree houses that provide the best escape from reality.

Walking into Acre you are greeted by hundreds (thousands?) of beautiful lush palm trees & tropical plants. You are surrounded by a very well kept forest of greenery that makes you want to re-do all your landscaping back home...

Upon check-in, you are served a glass of water and one of their amazing & refreshing signature cocktails. The staff are all extremely friendly and take pride in their beautiful property. The concierge takes you on a tour of the property and shows you all of their amenities from the pool, to the bocce & volley ball courts, and even ping pong tables which are all designed to fit into Acres' immaculately designed grounds.

We decided to stay in the Deluxe King Treehouse which consists of two king suites separated by a bridge about 40ft up in the air! Your view is among the tree tops and provides the ultimate sleeping experience (even in August)! Both rooms have a king bed and an outdoor patio. The rooms are completely screened in, protecting you from bugs at night (there weren't many). The beds are comfortable and have a fan above them to keep you cool. The main king suite has an indoor toilet, sink, & closet with additional storage under the bed. The outdoor shower (privacy included) is my favorite bathing experience to-date! Being in the shower surrounded by the trees & having an open view of the sky above you is absolutely perfect.

The overall design of the grounds is breathtaking. There is a lot of concrete, geometric tile-work, tons of tropical plants and the best, sweetest, juiciest mangos we have ever had! The property has many mango trees that provide shade and the best mangos ever that are even served pool-side while you enjoy another one of their delicious cocktails -- our favorite is the Hummingbird that is a vodka-based passion fruit cocktail that is the perfect amount of refreshing.

The pool is stunning. It is huge, the lip of the pool is about a foot above the ground and surrounded by teak wood & the geometric tile-work I mentioned earlier... There is a vanishing edge around the entire pool and as you float in the middle all you can see is the water & all of the beautiful cactus and trees that surround you.

The food was next-level. Every dish is carefully thought out and regionally inspired. The fried green tomatoes, seared pulpo (octopus), and molé chilaquiles were among our favorites! After you finish the main course their desserts wrap up the meal perfectly. The tres leches and chocolate cakes are both rich & leave you completely satisfied.

The outdoor event space is  lined with mango trees and the floor is their signature blue and white tiles. The trees provide a little shade and make the space feel separate and intimate. The space is surrounded by agave, grass, cactus and every other lush plant you would expect. The grounds at Acre provide countless photo opportunities and there is not a single bad thing to be said about it. We have visited multiple times for a meal or just to walk around and now we can say that we have stayed there as well! We will definitely be back and recommend it to everyone making a trip down to San Jose del Cabo.

Whether you're looking for a spot to host your bachelor/bachelorette get-away or are ready to dive into destination wedding planning, this place should be first on your list to check out!  The food, drinks, and accommodations were beyond a first class experience.

Adriana + Brent // Oak Tree Manor Wedding -- Spring, Texas

This past March we found were so lucky to have the opportunity to go out to the Houston area and photograph a beautifully elegant spring garden wedding at Oak Tree Manor in Spring, Texas.

Brent has been a friend of mine for over 10 years, his brother and I went to photography school together and often times I used Brent to model for my photo shoots. He is an incredible Artist and Graphic Designer and not to mention pretty darn hilarious . It only made sense when I met Adriana last summer (when we stopped by Houston on the way home from our New Orleans road trip to do their engagement shoot) that she was exactly the woman for Brent. Not only is she just as much fun as he, but she's in med school and just got accepted to do her residency in Pediatric Neurology. Smart, pretty and funny -- Brent sure scored the whole package with her! The wedding was a blast and filled with so much love and emphasis on the importance of family. I am so happy we were able to be there to capture the emotional  moments as these two families became one!

The rockstar team that put this day together.....

Sydnee + Landon // Stifle Theatre Wedding - St. Louis, Missouri

I met Sydnee + Landon a few years back when we photographed her brother Taylor's wedding at Mt. Woodson Castle in 2016. Sydnee was a bridesmaid and Landon was running video for Taylor and Morgan. They stood out at this breathtakingly-beautiful real life Barbie and Ken couple. I soon found out he was a news anchor and she was Miss Missouri USA --- dang!  I thought right then and there man I would love to photograph their wedding someday-- they are so good looking! Well turns out Landon was proposing soon after that wedding and Sydnee called us up and asked if we would come to St. Louis the following summer to photograph their opera house wedding. We were so excited to be apart of their day and to see the amazing Stottlemyre family again! We were pretty lucky with the timing of this wedding and decided to drive out to St. Louis rather than fly. We packed up the Prius and even the fur-kids and left on a 2 week road trip. We fell in love with St. Louis, the City Museum and the beautiful Peabody Opera House.

Lindsay + Jake // Darlington House Wedding - La Jolla, Ca

Lindsay + Jake tied the knot back in November of 2017. They probably had one of the best sunsets of the year that day. The Darlington House never lets down with all it's history and charm. We are so thankful we got to capture their special day and LOVED they added their fur baby to the party! If only our dogs would have been that obedient. It was a wonderful day and start to their next chapter! They are expecting a baby this summer! Congrats you guys!

Kate + Joel // LA Historic Park + Conduit Wedding - Los Angles, Ca

Kate and Joel got married on 12-30-2017 at The Los Angles Historic Park with the most incredible backdrop of the LA skyline imaginable. As lovely as it all was, this was not their original wedding day vision! This calm and collected couple found out on facebook two weeks before the big day that the original venue had burned down in the Los Angles fires. They jumped on ideas right away and were able to come up with the perfect ceremony cite at the historic park followed by reception walking distance at The Conduit Arts and Events space. Their 200 person wedding felt like a quaint dinner party and was full of love, laughter and so much fun! Here is to this awesome couple who knew it was more about the marriage than the party!

Christine + Kyle // Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Wedding - Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

We were overjoyed when Christine and Kyle informed us they would be getting married in Cabo! It's one of our favorite places to shoot! My dad has lived there full-time and owned a restaurant for over 30 years and it is honestly our second home! We had so much fun capturing their Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Wedding. The weather was perfect and the day was so relaxed, honestly we love how fun and easy going destination weddings are! Thank you guys so much for having us out to capture your wedding day!

Christine's take on the day:  "Absolutely amazing! From the whales coming out to say hi at the ceremony to jumping in the pool at the end of the night! I couldn't have asked for a better time with my soulmate and loved ones!"

Jenna + Jamie // San Diego Museum of Art Wedding

Jenna and Jamie got married at The San Diego Museum of Art back in March. They were such troopers as is poured all day long! Honestly, it's so odd when San Diego weddings are completely rained out (by the way rain on your wedding day is a sign of good luck!) . They were so cool with moving their reception inside as well as doing all photos indoors (the awesome museum backdrop was so much fun to play with!) and -- it couldn't have happened without the awesome team at I do ... Weddings and Events ! This all made it so easy to maneuver through the day and capture their Best Day Ever!

Getting ready for 2016

We just finished our brand new site and are excited for 2016. One of the things that we are going to start doing is blogging our weddings to give you first-person perspective of the weddings we shoot and what you can expect.

We look forward to being with you on your wedding day to capture every life-changing moment!

Best,

Team Vacay
